Description

Ahsoka Tano has been hurt in combat and Barriss Offee must protect her from any further harm if she is to survive. But the Mandalorian Death Watch warlord Pre Vizsla wishes for some Jedi on his kill chart. But Barriss Offee's master, Lumnara Unduli is determined for Vizsla to come through her first if he ever is to hurt the two young Jedi. But Vizsla's ferocity and origins with the Death Watch make him a determined and a challenging opponent with an ancient black-bladed lightsaber that has sewn death to Mandalore's opponents over the last many centuries. Luminara and Vizsla tackle eachother vigourously in an ancient arena that was built for ancient Mandalore warrior tradition.

The arena was lightly based on the one on Geonosis but I decided it should be a Mandalorian battle arena. As Kilian Plunkett had done in the episode "The Mandalore Plot," I followed the idea of using the Boba Fett armour structure as building ornamentation by adorning the interior wall with the Mandalorian diamond.
Some of the statues in the audience area are positioned saluting but one or two are positioned as raising a sword high in the air. This mimics Luke Skywalker in the first classic original Star Wars posters.

When drawing Barriss and Ahsoka, I used the positioning Ahsoka was in when holding on to Barriss in "Brain Invaders" when Kit Fisto finds them unconscious in the cargo ship. But here, Barriss is holding on to an injured Ahsoka as if saving her life in return for saving hers.

The Luminara and Vizsla duel recalls the traditionl Jedi vs Mandalorian matchup during the Old Republic war. Their poses were inspired by a screenshot from the new Knights of the Old Republic gameplay displayed in a magazine.
This picture is meant to be a sort of duel diorama modelled after traditional classic lightsaber duels especially ones in the Original Trilogy. To me, things about this picture prove that Star Wars is not so different to the archetypal stories of Knights and Chivalry even if the swords are ones operated with laser and the suits of armour have weapons built into them. Not to mention Luminara Unduli and Barriss Offee seem to be drawn on warrior nuns and Mandalorians in general are associated with the Spartans.

Very cool idea.  The concept is very well exploited.  Impressive takes on the inspirations.
